Genna + Marco Get Married | Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey

Posted by Taylor Allen on May 24, 2010
The setting sun was the biggest star at this quiet outdoor wedding last fall. I love shooting into the sun, making the subject light up in an angelic glow, fabricating orbs of lens flare all over the composition. This wedding was on the edge of a little lake, with the sun beaming through the leaves... what could be more epic for a beautiful and majestic moment like this? Genna has been a good friend of Darren and I ever since the days of high school. It was an honor to be a part of her wedding, and it was wonderful to see her and Marco so happy together. After the ceremony, we took a stroll through the falling leaves and captured some amazing portraits. More lens flare... I love it! Genna looked gorgeous, absolutely stunning, and Marco had a huge smile plastered to his face the whole time. After portraits, we stayed for a little reception in the woodsy clubhouse and took pictures, ate some fantastic cookies (what were those?) and caught some shots of the impromptu dance party that broke out later in the evening. Move the tables and chairs aside, anything can be a dance floor.
Genna and Marco, congratulations on your momentous day, thank you for allowing us to witness it as your friends and photographers. We wish you God's best.

Chris + Hannah Get Married | Schooley’s Mountain Park

Posted by Darren Squashic on Mar 10, 2010
When Chris and Hannah first contacted me about their wedding and told me about their plans I was very excited. Hannah was a bridesmaid in one of my very first weddings, and the wedding ceremony was being held in an outdoor chapel in the middle of the woods at Schooley's Mountain Park in New Jersey at the peak of fall! I've gone hiking at Schooley's Mountain multiple times a year for the past few years, and I love the scenery, the waterfalls, the overlooks, and the amazing colors in the fall.

On the day of the wedding it was raining on and off, but we planned ahead - Hannah brought the sweet yellow rain boots and I brought the colorful umbrella! It rained for several days beforehand so the fall colors were EXPLODING, green, yellow, orange, red, you name it. Despite the rain we were SO excited, and I figured the boots and umbrella would make for some cool photos that really fit Chris and Hannah's personalities.

We absolutely LOVE when we get time for relaxed portraits before the ceremony and all the craziness of the wedding day begins, and I got a solid hour with Chris and Hannah before any of the guests arrived and the ceremony began. We walked around Schooley's Mountain and got some fantastic photos, braving the cold and rain was completely worth it!

As you can imagine, everyone involved was praying like crazy that it would stop raining, and just a few minutes before the ceremony in the woods began the rain completely stopped and the sun came out! The ceremony was beautiful, and not just because of the sunshine and the color of the leaves!

Just realized that Aevum won a Bride's Choice award from WeddingWire for 2010! Thank you so much to the wonderful brides who contributed reviews... you have earned our undying love and loyalty. That's a pretty good trade, wouldn't you say?

In case you were curious, here's some fancy verbiage I pulled from the award's description. Not bragging or anything, I'm just sayin'.

"The WeddingWire Bride's Choice Awards ™ recognizes the top local wedding professionals from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness, and professionalism. Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the organization, the Bride's Choice Awards are determined by recent reviews and extensive surveys from over 500,000 newlyweds. This year's winners represent the top five percent of WeddingWire's vendor community, which consists of over 100,000 local wedding professionals nationwide."

Madison Hotel Conservatory | Troy + Glynnis Get Married!

Posted by Taylor Allen on Feb 25, 2010
If you saw the Photo Booth pictures from Troy and Glynnis wedding, then you already have a taste of the crazy frenetic energy at this place. What I found shocking was not only these people's uncanny ability to dance, but the raw emotion that connected every moment of this day. In Glynnis and Troy, there was an emotional openness that touched me deeply. There's a picture of Troy's face when he sees his radiant bride walk throguh the glass doors of the Madison hotel conservatory. This big guy who loves to goof off and make funny faces with a tear rolling down his cheek can barely contain himself. Big laughs and big tears. There's nothing hiding here. How refreshing. Looking through a lens, watching every detail unfold, I felt a profound connection with this emotion. To capture this feeling, it almost has to be experienced vicariously. To be so close through the camera's eye, closer than anyone else in the room, to see the distance closing between the lovers' faces, to see the white knuckles as they grip one another...
Glynnis and Troy, thank you, for your infectious energy, your freedom and raw emotional transparency. Thank you for reminding me what this business of love is really all about. The beautiful Madison Hotel Conservatory. Route 124 (Madison Avenue) Convent Station, NJ 07961 973-539-6666 Not sure how this happened... Guys, there's a reason Darren's a photographer. It's so he DOESN'T DANCE. No matter what he says, please keep him off the dance floor. Please. This photo is disturbing on so many levels, I don't even know where to begin. At least Troy was able to figure out where the camera was!

Madison, New Jersey | Ashley + Tom Engaged

Posted by Taylor Allen on Jan 28, 2010
Madison, New Jersey is kind of a famous place, as far as New Jersey goes. Episodes of "The Sopranos" were filmed right here. And scenes from "A Beautiful Mind", "Guess Who", and "The Family Stone."

All of that was stuff I learned from Tom and Ashley as we walked down the historic-feeling streets and through the beautiful Madison Train Station. Ashley seemed to be pretty popular in her home town as we would hear people yelling "ASHLEYYY!!!" out of random cars passing through downtown. Tom just enjoyed the ride most of the time, but a few times I caught him staring at his fiancé with this dazed smile... I think he might have a thing for her.

The light was spectacular and it gave us a chance to capture some of the beautiful textures and colors around Madison. We had a FANtastic time laughing with Tom and Ashley, and LOVED the way they melted into each other in front of the camera. It really is incredible to photograph two people this much in love. Their smiles light up the image and you can just feel the warmth. That's the kind of celebrity smile that's made Madison famous in my book.

Here's a great self-timer shot...
Words escape me. I want to have an excuse for my hair... I want to say that I just survived a maelstrom... or was hit by a transit bus trying to get a great photo. But the truth is, I didn't even know until I saw this picture. Thanks Darren, for letting me know. Such a friend. (When I confronted him on it, his response was... "But it's always like that." This statement merits further investigation.)
