Madison Hotel Conservatory | Troy + Glynnis Get Married!

Posted by Taylor Allen on Feb 25, 2010
If you saw the Photo Booth pictures from Troy and Glynnis wedding, then you already have a taste of the crazy frenetic energy at this place. What I found shocking was not only these people's uncanny ability to dance, but the raw emotion that connected every moment of this day. In Glynnis and Troy, there was an emotional openness that touched me deeply. There's a picture of Troy's face when he sees his radiant bride walk throguh the glass doors of the Madison hotel conservatory. This big guy who loves to goof off and make funny faces with a tear rolling down his cheek can barely contain himself. Big laughs and big tears. There's nothing hiding here. How refreshing. Looking through a lens, watching every detail unfold, I felt a profound connection with this emotion. To capture this feeling, it almost has to be experienced vicariously. To be so close through the camera's eye, closer than anyone else in the room, to see the distance closing between the lovers' faces, to see the white knuckles as they grip one another...
Glynnis and Troy, thank you, for your infectious energy, your freedom and raw emotional transparency. Thank you for reminding me what this business of love is really all about. The beautiful Madison Hotel Conservatory. Route 124 (Madison Avenue) Convent Station, NJ 07961 973-539-6666 Not sure how this happened... Guys, there's a reason Darren's a photographer. It's so he DOESN'T DANCE. No matter what he says, please keep him off the dance floor. Please. This photo is disturbing on so many levels, I don't even know where to begin. At least Troy was able to figure out where the camera was!

Madison, New Jersey | Ashley + Tom Engaged

Posted by Taylor Allen on Jan 28, 2010
Madison, New Jersey is kind of a famous place, as far as New Jersey goes. Episodes of "The Sopranos" were filmed right here. And scenes from "A Beautiful Mind", "Guess Who", and "The Family Stone."

All of that was stuff I learned from Tom and Ashley as we walked down the historic-feeling streets and through the beautiful Madison Train Station. Ashley seemed to be pretty popular in her home town as we would hear people yelling "ASHLEYYY!!!" out of random cars passing through downtown. Tom just enjoyed the ride most of the time, but a few times I caught him staring at his fiancé with this dazed smile... I think he might have a thing for her.

The light was spectacular and it gave us a chance to capture some of the beautiful textures and colors around Madison. We had a FANtastic time laughing with Tom and Ashley, and LOVED the way they melted into each other in front of the camera. It really is incredible to photograph two people this much in love. Their smiles light up the image and you can just feel the warmth. That's the kind of celebrity smile that's made Madison famous in my book.

Here's a great self-timer shot...
Words escape me. I want to have an excuse for my hair... I want to say that I just survived a maelstrom... or was hit by a transit bus trying to get a great photo. But the truth is, I didn't even know until I saw this picture. Thanks Darren, for letting me know. Such a friend. (When I confronted him on it, his response was... "But it's always like that." This statement merits further investigation.)

New York City | Diana + Mike Engaged

Posted by Taylor Allen on Jan 12, 2010
There's nothing like New York City. In a single square half mile you can be walking past giant murals of street art and graffiti, knee high grass and monolith skylines, and the fierce sun setting on the Hudson River. Amazing. Diana and Mike brought their dramatic class to the New York piers on this fantastic evening photo shoot in downtown Manhattan. After the sun went down, we played for some great shots in the middle of the street, waiting for headlights to be close enough for a dramatic shot... then RUN!!!! Darren worked some angles while I dodged traffic holding a flash. Meanwhile Diana and Mike seemed pretty content standing there, looking amazing and relaxed, successfully ignoring the imminent doom. It started to get a little chilly after sunset, so we finished up a few last minute street shots and called it a night. What a phenomenal shoot. Thank you New York for your unending surprises, thank you Darren for once again risking my life so you could get a great photo, and thank you Diana and Mike for your unending smiles and great spirits. We can't wait for the wedding :)

Patrick + Cam Get Married

Posted by Taylor Allen on Jan 05, 2010
Darren and I love photography for the details. A good picture takes something small that should have been missed, and turns it into something symbolic, powerful, and emblematic.

At Patrick and Cam's wedding, detail was literally, everywhere. Detail that was beautiful, shocking, and fresh. It was a perfect match. Ocean breezes and the balconies of the stunning Chelsea hotel, Sinatra serenading the cocktail hour, and the fading evening light off the Atlantic City skyline. Cam's work for her wedding was genius and her unique style lit up every photograph with a fascinating ambiance. If you haven't seen Cam's incredible design work, one look will convince you of the kind of precise and beautiful design sense she has. And we love Cam and Patrick because they are the raddest couple ever.

After a sunset ceremony on the balcony overlooking the beach, we made our way to the also insanely decorated reception. I got kicked out into the lobby to work the Photo Booth for most of the night because I couldn't stop staring at the cake. Meanwhile, Darren crept through the chic ambiance of dark purple lights, pink candles, feathers, and chrome studded skulls. But that cake... I think I'm still staring at it. Here are some of the awesome people we got to work with:

All over was the beautiful and unique logo Cam designed. On the programs, on the aisle runner, and yes... on the cake. Just like a great photograph, a symbol of the coolest couple ever, an emblem of their crazy, famous love. Now that's powerful.
